How much does a lone worker app cost in the UK?

By the SafetyEvo team · · 7 min read

Most lone worker apps in the UK are priced per person, per month. The headline number is only part of the story, though: contract length, whether a monitoring centre is included, and which features are add-ons can double the real cost. This guide sets out the ranges we found in published prices, and the questions that let you compare quotes like for like.

We checked the prices UK providers publish on their own websites and in their public G-Cloud pricing documents on 31 October 2026. Many providers do not publish prices at all and only quote on request, so treat these ranges as a guide rather than a full survey.

The short answer

  • App only, for a small team on a monthly or 12-month term: published prices are usually around £7 to £12 per person per month.
  • App only, for large teams or on 3-year contracts: published prices fall to around £3 to £6 per person per month.
  • App plus 24/7 monitoring by an alarm receiving centre (ARC): published prices for small teams are usually around £11 to £15 per person per month.
  • Dedicated devices (a separate lone worker unit rather than an app on the staff phone) usually cost more, because the device, its SIM and often a monitoring service are included.

What pushes the price up or down

The same feature list can cost very different amounts depending on how it is sold. These are the things that move the price most.

  • Contract length. Some of the lowest published prices are for 36-month contracts. Shorter terms, or monthly billing, usually cost more.
  • Team size. Prices per person usually fall as the number of people rises.
  • Monitoring centre. A 24/7 ARC adds cost, either built into the price or as an add-on.
  • Add-ons. Some providers charge separately for check-in timers, welfare checks, tracking or team messages. Add these up before comparing.
  • Who counts as a user. Some providers charge for every account, including office staff who only respond to alerts. Others charge only for the people who work alone.
  • Text and call alerts. Escalation by text and automated call costs the provider money. Check whether it is included, capped, or charged per message.
  • Setup, training and onboarding. One-off fees can be significant for large rollouts.

Questions to ask every provider

  • What is the price per person per month on a monthly term, a 12-month term and a 3-year term?
  • Which features in the demo are included, and which are paid add-ons?
  • Do we pay for office users and responders, or only for people who work alone?
  • Are alert texts and automated calls included? Is there a limit?
  • Is a monitoring centre included? If so, who runs it, and to what standard?
  • What happens to an alert nobody answers? Does it keep escalating until a named person takes it?
  • Is there a setup fee, a minimum number of users, or a notice period?
  • Can we try it with our own staff before we sign, including a test alert?

App, device or monitored service?

An app on the phones staff already carry is usually the lowest cost way to meet your duty to manage the risks of working alone, and it covers most office, care, property, retail and field roles. A dedicated device can make sense where phones are not allowed or practical, or where a worker needs a single button they can press without looking. A monitoring centre adds trained operators who can take alerts at any hour, which suits organisations that cannot staff their own response around the clock.

Whatever you choose, HSE guidance is clear that the arrangement must be based on your risk assessment, and that someone must be able to respond. A cheap service that sends alerts nobody acts on does not meet that test.

What SafetyEvo costs

SafetyEvo is one plan with everything included: SOS, silent SOS and a duress PIN, check-in timers, silent phone warnings, welfare checks, escalation by push, text and automated call, the office console, reports and weekly drills. It costs £5 per person per month on monthly billing with no contract, £4 per person per month billed yearly, and £3.50 per person per month for 50 to 199 people billed yearly. Prices exclude VAT. You only pay for people who work alone: office users and responders are free. There is a 30-day free trial for up to 10 people with no card needed.

SafetyEvo does not yet include a 24/7 monitoring centre: alerts go to your own named people, who must acknowledge them. A separate monitored plan is coming.
